Excerpt Tuesday with Beth D. Carter

Once Upon a Love Story by Beth D. Carter

Excerpt:

So, Caleb Tasker was an onion. Layers and layers hid under that muscular forest ranger façade and she wasn’t sure if she liked that or not. She had just figured he’d be a great diversion for the evening, something to break up the relentless monotony, but now, she was afraid she might end up caring about what he said. And that was dangerous.

When she’d first arrived in Los Angeles, she’d been a sixteen year old dropout searching for fame and fortune. She’d run away from home with a huge chip on her shoulder thinking the world owed her something, and the streets were a mean place for a young girl alone. She’d done some pretty stupid things. But now she had a code, ethics that had helped save her years ago. And feeling sorry for a man was close to the top of that list. Emotions led to acting on stupid impulses and she refused to allow herself to be vulnerable ever again.

Still, this was just one harmless little date. Right?

She pulled into the Denny’s parking lot and cut the engine. He exited the car and hurried around to her side to help her out of the car. She stared at his hand as if it were going to bite her.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“A gentleman always helps a lady out of a car.”

“Says who?”

“My momma.”

That made Delilah smile. “My momma taught me to pick the wealthiest drug dealer on the street and get myself pregnant by him.”

That made him pause and blink in confusion. “What?”

She waved her comment away. Why did she go and tell him something like that? “Never mind. Come on.”
She locked the car up and headed toward the door, acutely aware of the big, muscular man behind her who towered over her. She almost felt small, which was saying something since she stood almost six foot tall in heels. Her legs were one of her best assets and she used them to her advantage when she danced at The Pink Pony.

They were shown to a booth in a back corner and the bright lights finally allowed her to see him in vivid detail. His eyes were a sky blue and his hair was a dirty blonde, curling around the edges of his collar. It looked soft to the touch and her fingers tingled with the desire to bury into the crisp strands. He reminded her a little of Daniel Craig. Very fine lines crinkled the area near his temples, alluding to a life where he laughed a lot, but the brackets that encircled his mouth hinted that some pain had mingled in there as well. He looked like a man of deep emotion, one who devoted himself wholly to whomever or whatever task he faced. She wondered if he would make love just as thoughtfully and she shivered a little bit at the wandering thought, her body thrumming to life with an awareness she’d never felt before.

Blurb:

Caleb Tasker lost his wife to cancer but it took him a long time to put her memory to rest.  Deciding he needs a vacation, he accepts the gracious invitation of living in his friend’s Malibu home for an over due holiday.

Delilah Ward grew up in rural Mississippi and ran away when she was sixteen, moving to Los Angeles with thoughts of being anything but the person she was born to be.  But reality settled in quickly and the bright lights of Hollywood soon faded into the dark abyss of dancing on a darkened platform.

Caleb is used to love being easy and Delilah is used to fighting against everything.  They have nothing in common except a wildfire attraction that won’t let go of them.  But when tough choices need to be made, will they both be able to be honest to what they really want?

My Bio:

I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. Music inspires me and each story has their own signature song.

I am a full time writer and  stay at home mom which means I watch a lot of animated movies.  Over and over again.   I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one.  My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming).  I hate people who don't pick up their dog's crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form.  And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my ereader, whom I’ve named Ruby.  So many books at the touch of a button!  I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on Facebook or Twitter or email me at: beth@bethdcarter.com.

Love stories rock with Carlene Love

New Release Post for Alyssa Fox J

Hi Alyssa, readers and visitors!  It’s great to be here today talking about hot summer reads, rock stars and a cute country town that has no idea what it’s in for when native son Jaxon James returns home.  Sin’s Flower was such a fun book to write because of those opposing dynamics.  I’ll give Jaxon credit, he tried to be good for his homecoming.  It just didn’t go quite as planned.  I hope you enjoy the sneak peek I’ve brought with me today.  Stay cool and have a great summer!
Love stories rock!

Sin’s Flower Blurb:
When Jaxon James, a sexy rock star and struggling single-father, is invited to ditch California and spend Christmas in Tennessee with his estranged family, he hesitantly accepts for his young daughter’s sake.  But his attraction to his best friend’s baby sister, Lily Elstone, threatens to unravel the bonds he’s made for his daughter.  The honorable thing to do would be to give up Lily.  But his instincts are telling him she’s exactly the one who could bring light to his life and the missing fire to his bed.  Unfortunately, Lily's too sweet for his world.  He fears his rock and roll life style will taint her.   How far are Jaxon and Lily willing to go to find what’s missing at home?

Sin’s Flower Excerpt:
Jaxon watched Lily’s hands sinking down into the sand from behind as hesitancy chopped up his steps.  Years of ending up in dire situations had made him a decisive man when he needed to be.  He was making one of those executive decisions right now.  It didn’t matter why she’d come.  And he was close to dismissing his reluctance over whose baby sister she was.  Not when she wore that swishing angelic lavender top that covered her from neck to shoulder to fingertip, driving him insane with curiosity.  God, and that flaming hair which had gone from neon just yesterday to a flattering shade of cinnamon temptation tonight.  His grip tightened around the folding chairs he’d gone to fetch.  Purposefully, he slowed down.
Then stopped.
Wanting her was one thing, but hurting this young woman was not okay.
Standing back, he took another couple minutes to contemplate what could happen tonight.  What he could control and make happen.
He knew they should talk.  He just hoped she didn’t mind how close he intended on being to her while that happened.  His grip loosened and one of the folding lounge chairs fell to the sand.  There would be plenty of room for the both of them on the one.  He walked until he made it back to her side and unfolded the chair to its full length.
“Uh, hi,” she said shyly, her brow furrowing in concentration.
“Hey.”  He sat down and held his arms out to assist her.  “Sit with me?”  He hadn’t given her much of a choice and caught her eye scanning the sandy trail where he’d come from.  “Yeah, I figured we didn’t need that one.”
“Oh, okay.  Wait, just so we’re clear here.  You want me to sit, where exactly?”
God, she would kill him tonight.  That amount of cute couldn’t be faked.  “Here, with me.”  Her eyes widened in disbelief so he scooted until he was flush with the back of the nylon chair and then opened his legs, letting one straddle each side.  “There’s room.”
“You’re crazy,” she said shaking her head.
He let out a faked huff.  His quick decision had been too fast for her and she wouldn’t believe this was his way of comforting her.  “I’ll go fetch the other chair.”
She gouged her hand into her hip.  “Wait.  It’s just…I really don’t think I’m gonna fit.”
A hurricane couldn’t have swayed her decision to stay put.  But she eventually bent her knees, bracing herself with strong hands, and lowered herself until her squeezable bottom met the chair.  Because he wanted her closer, he took the liberty of placing his hands at each side of her waist and scooted her back until she was flush with his chest and his lap.
On second thought, that was way too close.
Someone would kill him for the throbbing going on so close to their little sister.  He wiggled an inch of space between Lily and his now obvious and straining erection.  The last thing he wanted to do was leave her thinking he was incapable of a conversation without sex ending up front and center.  He had amazing amounts of control in that department.  It came along with all the years he’d practiced on the road.  Tonight, plainly put, he just wanted to be close to someone, to Lily.  And this was the way he knew how to do that.
“So what did you want to talk about?” he asked.
“I, I don’t know.”  It sounded like nerves had her.
They didn’t have to start with words.  Fuck him for his appetite but he could say more by doing this anyway.
Hey you, horny fucker.  This is the part where you pat her on the head, say you’re sorry, and send her back to her big sister.  This is not the time for indulging.  Pack it up, Jaxon.
Yeah, no questions about it.  That’s what he should do.

A bit about Carlene:
Carlene Love Flores is a big fan of the stars (especially Orion), honest music (especially Depeche Mode), and her travelling family (no favorites there-she loves them all). These things have always inspired her to think up edgy, intimate love stories and continue to do so. If she could touch someone’s heart with her writing the way others have done for her, she’d say truly there never lived a luckier girl.

Rescued at last, Royanne feels uncertain what to do. For Zachriel his past is revealed and he must face the truth. This truth cuts to his very soul and questions who he really is. Now he must come to terms with the lie that has been his life. Royanne fights her feelings for Zachriel. She begins to see him as a kindred spirit. There is only one thing to do reveal her love for him. Can she convince him her feelings are real and he is worth loving?

Excerpt.
"Oh, okay." Royanne seemed to accept who he was. But then, he knew she would; being a demon with the ability to possess minds, he could easily mold her thoughts. She stepped out of the doorway more into the alleyway.
That's good, feel comfortable with me.
"I saw you dancing, you move well," he commented.
"Thank you. I am Royanne." She offered her hand.
Yes, contact, that is what I need again.
He took his hands out of his pocket and reached out. His large, calloused hand enveloped hers, and her warmth met his cold. She was soft, and he wondered if the rest of her was the same.
"I'm Zach, good to meet you," Zach replied while inching closer. Touching her was enough to establish a link to her mind. I have you now. She was still wary but calm. Underneath the layers of her mind was something else. Need. This I can work with.
"So, how you finding life at base?" he asked, still holding her hand.
"Well, you know fun, fun, fun!" she replied sarcastically.
He could feel she was unhappy.
"It all helps for the future, you know." He sensed her need for freedom.
Royanne moved her hand away, but he noticed she lingered at little as they released their grips. He had her now; her mind was his, but he needed more. A taste of her, then the link would be stronger. Damn, there were too many people passing the entrance to the alleyway for him to make his move now. If he got her wanting him enough to go to a hotel room, that would be perfect.
He could read strands of desire in her mind. He planted more, he planted himself. This little Guardian was proving easier to manipulate than he had first thought. But what did they know of strength? All their kind was good for was the torture of the young and weak. He was no longer young or weak. The Dark Master had ensured they took care of him, nurtured, and trained to be a warrior of worth. Zach reached out and touched her bare arm lightly. With feather-like fingers, he stroked her skin. Royanne's gaze drifted to his fingers playing on her skin. She had not recoiled, which was good. He became bolder as he moved his hands to her shoulder. Her skin was warm and smooth. Zach maintained eye contact, knowing it would strengthen his bond with her. He caressed her cheek, and he slid his other hand lower to hold her curved hip and then her rounded ass. He massaged her ass cheek, and when no resistance was apparent, he lowered his lips to her pinky full lips, that called to him to kiss and claim. She seemed frozen to the spot. Yes, just as he liked them, under his control, helpless. He had her mind.
Fire met ice. She kissed him back with equal force, which surprised him. Does this Guardian actually want me? Her hands drifted to his hips, and he felt her grip tighten, and she brought him closer into her. Oh hell, she tastes so good. He let his tongue play with her mouth, then dart between those parted  sweet lips. Her mouth was wet and warm, just as he hoped her pussy would be when his cock entered her. He cupped her breast with one hand and found her nipple taut. Kissing down her neck, he lowered her strap down her shoulder to reveal a heavy breast waiting for him. He played with her nipples with his fingers before his mouth took over. He licked them all over, the tip of his tongue flicking backward and forward.
"Oh yes," she groaned.
Then he took her wet nipple into his mouth and sucked hard. Her hips moved with every suck. Zach wondered how wet she was. He continued sucking but used one hand to lift her dress up and brought the other hand straight to her panties. He was delighted to find them getting damp. He pulled the seam aside, and he discovered she was smooth.
"Oh, so wet for me, Royanne," he said as he kissed down her stomach.
Her mind told him she wanted his mouth where his fingers played. He tore the scrap of material away and lifted her leg over his shoulder. He hungered for her, so he went to work with his mouth and tongue. Licking around her swollen lips, he sucked her clit before letting his tongue establish a rhythm. Royanne moaned and grabbed his head, pushing her hips farther into his face. The enemy tasted divine, sweet and musky. She was so close, he could read her fully now.
But no! Control was important now. He could not let her come here in this alleyway; he needed her alone to complete his mission. He stopped and got to his feet. Her eyes were dazed, and her mind was confused.
"Why did you stop?" she questioned.
"Not here." He scanned the alleyway. "I want you on a bed where I can enjoy you fully." He knew she agreed.
"I'll get my purse and follow you out," she said, straightening her dress.
